Joe Guerrero- A Boxing Story

Joe Guerrero - A Boxing Story is a 7-minute documentary that follows 20-year-old amateur boxer Joseph Guerrero from El Sereno, a neighborhood in East Los Angeles. Joe is training for his second official fight, which is an essential step on his journey toward qualifying for the 2026 U.S. Nationals and potentially the Olympics. Set throughout a five-week training camp, the film offers an intimate glimpse inside Joe’s world, from the boxing gym in Pasadena where he trains under veteran coach Willard, to his sparring sessions with former MMA champion Kengo “The Japanese Assassin” Ura.

Surrounded by a tight-knit and supportive gym community, Joe finds strength not only in his training but also in the people who believe in his potential. "Joe Guerrero" explores the discipline, stakes, and raw ambition that define amateur boxing in L.A. With ten fights required to qualify for the Nationals, this match in the Bay Area marks a pivotal moment. Will Joe rise to the challenge?

I directed, shot, produced and edited this project for my final assignment for my Video Production class and was selected for my school’s annual student film festival. The Film also got selected in one of the biggest High School Film Festivals in America, the All-American High School Film Festival, and will be screened in New York City in October 2025.
