After my first short hit film, Joe-Guerrero, a Boxing Story, I fell in love with making Documentaries. Just hearing and listening to people’s stories is very powerful and interesting to hear. So, I decided to make a new short film called The Cover Band.

The Cover Band is a 6-minute short film about a Morrissey and Smiths Cover Band called The Sweet and Tender Hooligans. I shot the film in November of 2025 and finished the project in May of 2026.

I direct messaged the main singer, Jose Maldonado, via Instagram to ask if I could interview him about what, when, how, and why he decided to form this incredible band. He replied and was very enthusiastic about letting me interview him, and even helped me get a media pass to take photos inside the venue.

This was a personal project first, but I decided to make it both my own project and a project for my Film Class. This movie was yet again selected for my school’s annual Film Festival! I shot, edited, produced, and directed this film all on my own.
